Val d'Hérens (1407m - 3000m)

Val d'Hérens , the Wallis Alps, Switzerland The 3,000 m high peaks Pic d´Artsinol, Mont Rouge, Pigne d´Arolla and Mt. Collon loom as petrified mountain keepers over the entrance to the Val d´Herens valley. Small villages friendly overlook the modern ski areas. The beautiful valley splits in two in its upper part and ends up at the foot of Dent Blanche (4,357 m). Only a few mountain peaks separate this region from the well-know Zermatt and Les Quatres Vallés resorts. Exceptionally good snow and ski conditions add to the attractiveness of 90 km of intermediate and easy runs. The whole resort is connected by numerous lifts and cable cars and is suitable mainly for beginners and families with children. Snowboarders can practice on the slope by Mount Rouge. Due to its location at 2,000 m the Arolla area is suitable for spring skiing with plenty of snow. Cross-country skiers can ski on almost 40 km of groomed trails or set out towards the splendid glacial streams in early spring. Highly interesting are visits to the culture regions of the western Alps where inhabitants still wear their traditional costumes and where the original slate-roofed rustic granges with porches are preserved.
