Leukerbad (1411m - 610m)

Leukerbad , the Bern Alps, Switzerland Winter holiday with skiing or in thermal spas? In Leukerbad both dreams can come true. It differs from the other ski resort because it offers one of the biggest thermal baths in the Alps in addition to wide choice of runs. More than twenty halls and open air swimming pools offer refreshing baths in the middle of the impressive winter world. The thermal springs known since the Roman period produce three million liters of healing water per day. Due to its protected position, staying here means a sunny bath as well. There are slopes for beginners at the periphery of the town but the ski resort itself is situated on the slopes of a 3,000 m high Torrenthorn with runs tested in the World Cup races. The most challenging of them is 10 km long run with a descent of 1,300 m. The runs however are mostly wide and suitable for carving and are full of panoramic views of the 4000 meter-high Wallis Alps. That is also why the resort is most popular with families and children who can forgive it the often reproached high percentage of lifts. The thermal springs nevertheless cause one big disadvantage – the snow cannons cannot be really used here since their use requires cold water. In spite of this, the ski season lasts here usually until the mid-April.
