Eisacktal / Valle Isarco , the Sarntal Alps, Italy Eisacktal is a wide deep valley situated in between the Sarntal Alps and the Dolomites. Although its camber (almost 1,500 m) is of an alpine quality, you can experience here relaxing skiing far from the rush of other more famous Alp ski resorts. Plose (2,447 m) and Monte Fana (2,547 m), the deforested carving slopes, are the busiest parts of this resort. The southern slopes, full of red runs with a magnificient view of the Alps, are covered with snow cannons that are to reduce the influence of lots of sunshine here. If you are at least a little bit experienced skier, you must try skiing on one of the best slopes in the Dolomites – a 9 km long Trametsch run. Starting at Plose mountain hut, it goes gently down through a deforested slope to the terminal station of a cable car going downwards to the valley; then the trail goes further into the forest where you can enjoy a long steep stretch with beautiful views of the valley and Brixen, the oldest small town in South Tyrol. A black run down from Gitschberg is our next tip for speed skiing and carving fans as well. During your stay, do not forget to visit Brixen, in particular its historical centre with Pizza del Duomo, bishop´s palace with Museo Diocesano and other sights. And do bear in mind that this resort is a member of Dolomiti Superski Alliance and just one ski pass is valid all over the Dolomites!
