Cortina d'Ampezzo (1224m - 3000m)

Cortina d'Ampezzo , the Dolomites, the Italian Alps Cortina ski resort is a symbol of skiing in Italy, because even Italians consider it to be far from modern. It seems that since the 1956 Winter Olympic Games hardly anything has changed. However, skiing on empty slopes might be absolutely suitable for some people. The resort is made up of Monte Cristallo, Sorapis and Tofana – 3,000 m high mountain tops; unfortunately their slopes are not very well connected. You can get to the runs either by high-capacity cable cars from Cortina or by ski buses. A total number of 120 km of runs, situated in several areas, provide you with rich ski possibilities during your week´s stay. If it is nice weather, you must go up to the Tofana peak or Cristallo resort; there is a black slope from Forcella Staunies to the Tre Croci pass which only brave skiers dare to use. Passo Falzarego pass provides you with a a panoramic view; moreover a steep cabin lift (without supporting columns) goes up from here to the Lagazuoi top (2,750 m) where you can enjoy one of the best view of the Dolomites. Those people who want to get some fresh air by skiing on the World Championship racing trails should go to Socrepes – Tofana ski resort. When it is windy, you will certainly appreciate that slopes here are lined with trees. They range from easy (in lower parts above the town) to steep runs, including the Olympic racing trail. Anything you choose, do not forget to feast your eyes on the wonderful scenery of the Alps and soak up the sunshine so typical of the Dolomites.
