Reit im Winkl , the Bavarian Alps, Germany
Reit im Winkl, situated only about 300 km from Czech borders, lies in a charming valley in the south of Bavaria, in between Salzburg and Munich (only 25 km away from a motorway connecting these cities). Winkelmoonsalm near Reit im Winkel, together with Makerköhr-Steinplatten, is
a large ski area. It quarantees excellent snow conditions and therefore it is possible to enjoy skiing here in the spring and for all winter sports fans to experience lots of fun. It also happens from time to time that there are ski competitions held in Reit im Winkel (classical skiing, biathlon), usually because of insufficient snow cover in the neighbouring resorts.
In order to get to the mountain plateau without a car, you have to use ski bus shuttle service in Segatterl at the latest. Kammerköhr-Steinplatte could also be reached from the Tyrrolean ski resort of Waidring. At 1,100 – 1,800 m of altitude you can find a genuine ski paradise. More experienced skiers will certainly try skiing on Seeggaterl, a narrow and icy run. Lovers of deep snow and freeride skiing will enjoy their their time on the Dürnbachhorn mountain top. Valmberg as well as nursery slopes in the valley are especially suitable for beginners. The undulating countryside in the valley is a paradise for cross-country skiers – they can make use of tracks going up to Ruhpolding and Inzell. Apart from these, there is also the World Championship track above all suitable for experineced skiers.
Tourists are provided with a wide range of aprés ski activities. Apart from sledging, ice-skating, hiking trails or horse-drawn sleighs, Reit im Winkel offers snowtubing (going down the hill on tubes). Very popular is also playing tennis or
thermal spa. Reit im Winkel focuses above all on gastronomy and hotel business. The example of this could be the Landsguthof restaurant owned by Rosa Mittermaier, several times champion in downhill skiing.
