Hochpustertal (Osttirol) (950m - 2407m)

Hochpustertal (Osttirol) , the Gailtal Alps, Austria Hochpustertal is a ski resort of a medium size (60 km of runs) on the border with Italy. This sunny, quiet relaxing recreational resort is extremely popular with families with children. Villages situated in the Obertillach and Ausserwillgraten Valley are charming with its peaceful and rural character. On the other hand, slopes are of a real Alpine quality. The best skiing resorts are in border Sillian and near Obertilliach. Sillian is unique with its 11 km long run called Thurntaler. The whole area is especially suitable for beginners, carving fans and a family vacation. Here, you can also find slopes for freeride (at the top station of Sillian gondola for example) as well as for snowboarding (well-equipped snowpark with a 100 m halfpipe). However, the ski resort has bigger plans – a connection between Sillian and Monte Elmo in Italy (Hochpustertal/Val Alta Pusteria ski resort) providing better snow conditions is being considered. The longest tracks for cross-country skiing are to be found along Drava in Pustertal, the best then in Gailtal. Internazionale long distant track is very difficult. For experienced cross-country skiers there is an interesting track along the border from Hollbruck up to Untertilliach.
